Door keys

Let door staff without an account scan the tickets for one event: give them a code or a QR code, and take it back when the night is over.

Overview

Hired door staff often have no Stageboxx account. A door key opens the ticket scanner for one event on a limited number of phones, without signing in. It works for that event only, and stops working when it expires or you revoke it.

Door staff with a key can let tickets in and out and use the scanned-in counter. They see nothing else of your organisation.

Key concepts

Door key

A name, an expiry and a number of devices. One key is meant for one door or one team.

Code and QR code

Eight characters, such as ABCD-EFGH, and a QR code that opens the scanner with the code. Both are shown only once, when the key is created.

Devices

How many phones can use the key at the same time, from 1 to 10. Revoking a device frees its place.

Creating a door key

Owners and admins can create and revoke door keys. Staff cannot, because a key opens the door.

1

Open the event

Open the event in the event editor and go to Ticket Types. Door keys are listed there once the event is saved.

2

Choose Create door key

Give the key a name, such as Main entrance, and choose how many devices may use it.

3

Check the expiry

By default the key expires two hours after the event ends. You can choose another time, at most 30 days after that.

4

Hand over the code

Choose Create key. Let the door staff scan the QR code, or copy the code and send it to them. It is the only time the code is shown.

At the door

1

Scan the QR code

Door staff scan the key's QR code with their phone camera. The scanner opens for your event, with no sign-in.

2

Or type the code

On the scanner's Door scanner screen they enter the Door code and choose Start scanning.

3

Scan tickets

The scanner works as usual for that event: let in, exit and the scanned-in counter. Every ticket let in or out through a key is recorded in your activity log under the key's name.

Seeing and changing a key

  • Each key lists its devices with when they were first and last seen, and shows how many are in use of the limit.
  • Change limit raises or lowers how many devices may use the key. To go below the devices signed in now, revoke a device first.
  • Revoke device stops one phone at once. The other devices keep working, and another phone can take the place.
  • Revoke stops the whole key at once, on every device.

When a key expires or is revoked

The scanner locks at once and says the door key has ended: it was revoked, it expired, or the device was removed. Scanning stops on that phone, and the door staff need a new code from you. Tickets already scanned stay scanned.

Staff with their own account can choose Sign in on the same screen and scan as usual.

Frequently asked questions

It says the key is already in use on as many devices as it allows.

Revoke a device on the key that is no longer used, or raise the limit with Change limit, or create a second key for that door.

It says there have been too many wrong codes.

To protect the door, too many wrong codes from one network lock out new attempts for 15 minutes. Check the code, or create a new key.

I lost the code.

The code cannot be shown again. Revoke the key and create a new one.

Can a key be used for another event?

No. A key only opens the scanner for the event it was created on.
